Through The Tall Ones, I was hired to work with them on Rusty Lake's: The Past Within game. It was a unique experience, since the development was very organic and iterative due to testing and player feedback, resulting in sometimes drastic alterations to puzzles (and hence the models themselves.
My role as the sole 3D artist was to translate Rusty Lake's distinctive and challenging 2D style, into 3D. This was especially important since halfway through the game the players switch their environment from 2D to 3D and this had to carefully match. This translation was realized through my own input and feedback from The Tall Ones whom also provided concept art and 3D puzzle mockups.
The big focus of the game are the two 3D puzzle boxes, not only did these need to fit the style, but also had to function on a technical level to accommodate the puzzles and the player interaction. In cases where it was not possible to make it all correct (adhere to the laws of physics, physical sizes/technical limitations), we subtly had to cheat in such a way that it looked plausible/convincing to the players.
Most of the 3D art was made by me (99%), this includes:
Environments
Props/furniture
Puzzle boxes
Various miscellaneous.
Models provided by the client: Rat, wasp and butterfly which I textured and adjusted the models to fit the style.
Wallpaper textures and photoframe/ projector slide images provided by client.
